The Cherry Gardens Memorial Hall is one of only a few halls in the Onkaparinga Council which is not owned by the Council. The voluntary committee of local people works very hard to promote the hall to the local community, and we run functions which provide an opportunity for the local community to come together. Recently, on the 14th September, was the third Community Campfire.

After a long (and cold) winter we are finally seeing the days lengthen and the temperatures warm. During the Winter months the Cherry Gardens brigade focused our training on structural fires and car accidents, and due to the cold and wet evenings our training was frequently held in the station rather than going out into the surrounding area.

The Home for Incurables Group. One summer’s day in about 1960, a cousin, Ray Lewis, and I went to the Adelaide Oval and watched a day’s cricket of a test match between England and Australia. As a school boy about 30 years before, Ray had polio, and was restricted to a wheelchair with little or no use of his legs and arms.
