Recreation Ground

Hello and welcome to my first update for the Recreation Ground.

My name is Bernie Sharrad, my wife, Melissa, and I have three children, twin girls playing netball for Ironbank and a son, who enjoys tennis. We have lived adjacent Ackland Hill Road for the past 8 years and I have lived locally for the past 30 years.

At the 2018 AGM, I was elected President of the Recreation Ground and look forward to continuing the good work and planning by the committee and outgoing President Matthew Smith.

As you may have heard, we received a “Fund my Neighbourhood grant” for approximately $100k late last year for new playground/exercise equipment. This is currently in the planning stage and once we receive plans will display them in the clubrooms. Our intention is to add to the existing playground to broaden the age group of the equipment and even add some exercise gear too. We have also submitted a “women in sport” proposal to upgrade our changerooms which will ensure we have a female friendly environment. This is another Government Grant program and will be announced by August this year.

In 2018, we have teams in Senior and Junior Football, Netball, Tennis and for the second year have both a Senior and Junior Women’s Football team. Summer netball was also very successful. Meals are available each Thursday night ($12 Main meals) and everyone is welcome.

If you have any ideas for the Recreation Ground, let myself or any of the committee members know and please remember the facilities are also available to hire.

We are a non-council, community owned ground and rely on patronage from all of us to contribute to the maintenance and development of the ground for the benefit of our children and community too. I look forward to 2018 and will keep you regularly updated on any news.

Kind regards
Bernie Sharrad
