Over the stable door with Hamish

By now many of you will be putting rugs on horses as the cold nights set in. It is handy to always have a spare rug or two from previous years just in case the present one gets a tear or whatever. Especially by the time we get into July/August, there’s nothing worse than having to rush out to replace a rug on a foul day, only to find that there isn’t a spare interim rug.

Cherry Church

The heritage of the church building and headstones is part of a rich fabric that makes Cherry Gardens such a special place. Most precious in that heritage, though, is the fact that the church has been used for Christian worship since its opening, in March 1849, 172 years ago. Services held on Sundays at 9.30am – and all are welcome.

Friends of Scott Creek Conservation Park

Since the January fires that were deliberately lit around the local area, and which burnt out the eastern 500 hectares of Scott Creek CP, there has been much activity, mostly behind the scenes, planning for the recovery task ahead of us in the Friends group. SAVEM at the Cherry Gardens fire

Over the last decade, Cherry Gardens residents may have seen white vehicles marked with reflective green and gold checkerband and logos travelling through the area. SAVEM is a 100% volunteer organisation with no paid staff.

We were called out at about 4pm on 24th January. Four hours later, when the bombers stopped flying for the night, we had completed 72 loads.

Cherry Church

Autumn is upon us and, across the valley from the Cherry Church, the tree nursery’s tints are changing into different, more colourful hues. And as Autumn brings these alterations to the natural world, we also enter the Christian season of Lent, the precursor to Easter.

Friends of Scott Creek Conservation Park

On 24 January a deliberately lit fire on a high fire danger day burnt its way through 500 hectares of Scott Creek Conservation Park. So goes the impassive headline. A devastating heart-wrench for the Friends group was learning that the home of inaugural members Donna and Don Reid was also destroyed along with Donna’s amazing artworks and years and years of Don’s personal bird observation records.
