Meadows Vet News

There is no doubt that we have many lovely clients and that being a vet or a vet nurse can be a very tough gig dealing with all manner of often very difficult situations. It absolutely makes our day when we read beautiful reviews like this as our priority is always to provide the very best service and care to all of our clients and their animals.

Can honestly say I’ve never met a team of vet nurses who are all so caring of each other & clients pets.

Absolute genuine open hearted care❤️ Thank you all from the bottom of my heart as I trust you all 100% with our family & you all know what they mean to us

We would also like to emphasise that we always try to follow up our cases to see how things are progressing, but we are not mind readers! If your pet/animal is not responding to the treatment provided it is very important to let us know!!!! Sometimes treatments need to be a journey of elimination to discover what works best or it may mean that a further step of testing might be required. We try to recommend testing only if deemed necessary to avoid additional costs. Ultimately the best outcomes for pets and animals can be achieved by having a really good relationship with your local vet!

With the warmer weather here, snakes are already out and about. Last summer was the worst we have had with snake bite cases and it appears that this year may also be a bad one. We have already had our first cases please be vigilant for signs of snake bite!

the first foals have arrived

The first mares for foaling down have been sent to us and the first foals have arrived! To be able to foal down other people's mares is a great honour and one that we really enjoy - we never get tired of seeing new life come into the world. We love our large shady yards for our client's breeding mares as well as the fact we have some nice large paddocks for the mares who come from a long distance away and stay for awhile. We have already achieved the first pregnancies for this breeding season and yes, we will be doing Embryo Transfer flushings in mares again - please phone us for more information.

Please remember that expectant mares should have a 2 in1 vaccination booster and worming approx 4 weeks prior to their due date. This is to ensure that the foal has some immunity until they can have their own vaccinations at 12 weeks of age. Newborn foals should have an IGG test done when they are 24 - 48 hours old to ensure they have acquired adequate immunity to infections & disease from the colostrum they get from their mother.

Giveaways

Advance notice - we have quite a few giveaways coming up in December as well as three Christmas hampers - 1 for dogs, 1 for cats and 1 for horses. Every client who has a consult for their pet or horse from the 11th November to the 19th Dec will go into the draw! Watch our Facebook page for more details!

Warning to all horse and pony owners!

With all the rain we have had there is an increase in the risk to horses and ponies of getting Laminitis and Founder. This is a common condition which causes varying degrees of foot pain, from the slightly pottery pony to severe life-threatening lameness. Owners often underestimate its potential to cause long term unsoundness. It is not uncommon for severe and uncontrolled cases to require euthanasia! It is important to realise that laminitis can progress from mild to severe even if early treatment is instigated. Early warning signs must be heeded, and action taken immediately!
