History

The Soldiers Memorial Park was officially opened on 13th October 1923 and a cross of remembrance was unveiled and dedicated on 28th April 1935 and the Flagpole on the 13th July in the same year.

Back in 2002, on the 79th anniversary of the opening of the park, the cross of remembrance was re-dedicated after being moved to where it is currently located.

Back in 2023 on October 13th it was the 100th anniversary of the official opening but we all missed this important date. As mentioned in the last Cherry Chatter we believe that while we can’t go back and celebrate this important Committee anniversary, we do feel that we should do something this year.
