We have been advised by the Onkaparinga Council regarding the newly released “ALERT SA” App. A new smart phone app designed to help keep South Australians safe and informed during risky bushfire conditions is now available. Alert SA is an emergency services smart phone application that provides timely, relevant bushfire information to communities. It combines data from the South Australian Country Fire Service (CFS) and the South Australian Metropolitan Fire Service (MFS) and displays bushfire alerts, warnings and updates as well as Fire Danger Ratings and Total Fire Ban information. Other hazards like flooding and storms will be added to the app in 2020. Residents can download the Alert SA app now from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store. The Alert SA website provides further information about the app including Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs). Other methods for keeping up to date this bushfire season include: Visiting http://www.cfs.sa.gov.au and subscribing to bushfire warnings Checking and following Facebook@CountryFireService or Twitter@CFSAlerts

Be Bushfire Ready and prepare your plan!

A reminder that summer is now here and with the state right in the middle of the first major heatwave for this summer it is timely to again remind everyone to be prepared for the fire season. Take a few minutes to prepare your Bushfire Plan. If a major bushfire is coming through our district remember that being on our roads will be extremely dangerous as we have bushland right up to the road verges and modern cars provide no protection or safety at all. If you can’t protect your house, then leave early.
