Football Club

Well by the time you get to read this article to COVID 2020 footy season minor rounds will be over. The Women’s team has already finished, and this year unfortunately did not get into the finals. That being said all the girls did the club proud and we hope they all enjoyed themselves.

With Saturday 29th Aug being the last home game for us this season and the last minor round for the rest of the competition it looks like our 2 senior teams could well finish as minor premiers and there is chance both junior teams will play finals footy.

This year the HFL has decided on a 3-week finals competition so if we finish on top then we have the next week off and then with a win in the semi’s go through and play in a Grand Final.

The rules and controls in the year of COVID means that anything can happen so we just have to wait and see where we might be playing and how many spectators will be allowed.

Last weekend we hosted the HFL Female semifinals games and with all the additional controls and precautions we had to put in place I was very proud of all our volunteers and helpers who made the day such a great success. Everyone who came along enjoyed the day and even with the changeable weather we managed well. Throughout the day we hosted well over 1,000 people including the players and spectators and we did so with the minimum of fuss. The HFL was very pleased and felt they learnt a lot which will help them as they continue with the rest of the finals program through September.

Our last home game was the One Club day with the 2 spits cooking all day. There was no food left at the end of the day and we had a great crowd and good footy from the juniors through to the A’s.

On the 29th the youngest of our players being the Moddies will be playing immediately following the end of the A’s game under lights. There has been a real resurgence of interest and enjoyment in having the young kids around the club and enjoying their footy. It is a great time for the kids and for the parents and I would highly recommend any locals who have young kids to get involved. We already have 4 girls playing and loving it so come along and give it a try.
